What is a Renaissance School?
A Renaissance school is one that creates a culture in which academic excellence is supported and rewarded.
Renaissance is not as much a program as it is a process; an attitude based on collaboration between business, education, and the community, bringing ideas and people together to find ways for our children to experience the true joy of learning and to recognize educators as dedicated and valued professionals.
Renaissance is the process by which schools promote the pursuit of excellence and weave the concept of academic achievement into the fabric of the school community. The process revolves around three primary principles: Promotion, Performance, and Partnership. What you reward, respect, and recognize gets accomplished. Renaissance schools create ceremonies, rituals and celebrations that honor and recognize academic achievement. Students are encouraged and rewarded. Teachers are valued and recognized.
History
Renaissance is a concept developed by the Renaissance Education Foundation. Nearly 4,500 schools across the country have developed their own programs to encourage academic excellence. Bergenfield High School is soon to be one of them.
Renaissance offers incentives and rewards for academic excellence and improvement. Students who reach a specified grade point average or improve their GPA receive a card entitling them to privileges.
