Comprehensive School Reform Grant

CSR GRANT (RWB) NOTICE:

Mrs. Tucciarone, Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach has an important role in the Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) Grant, which was awarded to Roy W. Brown Middle School during 2006. Her job is to promote literacy in the various areas of our curriculum.

Mrs. Tucciarone will be available to confer with individuals during parent conferences. If you did not receive her informative brochure during Open House in September, you will have an opportunity to receive one on Thursday, October 26.

UPDATE:

Mrs. Tucciarone has been teaching in classrooms in a variety of situations. She is attempting to work in some 8th grade language arts classes to promote reading independently at home. Students then meet in small book groups called literature circles to discuss the reading. Each student prepares a role to discuss with his or her group.

Helping students to understand that literacy extends to math, science, and social studies classes is another area where Mrs. Tucciarone has offered her expertise. In the role of literacy coach, she has made students aware of math vocabulary, sentence structure, and steps involved in answering open-ended questions. Moreover, in the other subject areas, she has introduced strategies to help students read a textbook effectively.

Mrs. Tucciarone will continue to visit classes and offer assistance so that students will become more active readers and writers. She hopes that parents will join with RWB teachers to become partners in literacy and encourage reading at home.
