As the saying goes, “let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me.” To bring a little bit more peace in our classrooms and with each other, our district elementary schools participated in commemorating International Day of Peace. Established by the United Nations, this day of global unity celebrated annually on September 21 aims to generate international awareness in achieving dignity, prosperity and equality for humanity.
Students from our five elementary schools created “pieces” featuring artwork that evoked depictions of what peace meant to them. These peace pieces were woven together to form a quilt for each school. Special thanks to our World Cultures teachers, Christina Bezdjian, Karen Papageorgiou and Diane Nasse, for spearheading this project with our students!
