Franklin School First Day of School Letter to Parents
Welcome to Franklin Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year. I look forward to meeting with you throughout the school year. You will find that Franklin Elementary School is a welcoming and inviting community of staff, students and parents, where we strive to work together for the betterment and safety of all. The supply list for each grade is listed on the website to assist you with items that will be needed throughout the school year. As a reminder, during the first two weeks of September, all students will need to bring their lunch to school. Please provide healthy snacks and lunch for your child(ren).
I am also reminding parents/guardians about a few of the policies of Franklin School:
- No parent/guardian should be pulling into the parking lot to drop off students in the morning or pulling in to pick them up at dismissal time (3:10). We have students and parents walking through the lot, coming in early for breakfast, choir and orchestra; as well as teachers coming to work to pull into their assigned parking spots. This also interferes with the buses that must come into the lot to drop off students in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon. Having additional traffic is endangering these very same people.
- In order to start the day off properly and on time, I ask that students be on time daily to school (by 8:30 but not before 8:15, the exceptions are 1.) if they attend the before care program and 2.) 4th and 5th grade students that attend choir and/or instrumentals in the morning), the late bell rings at 8:35 and students will be marked tardy at that time. Students that arrive late, miss an opportunity for learning during the morning messages and procedures. Any student arriving to school 9:00 or later, must be signed in by a parent! Please do not just sent in your child(ren) without you coming in to sign them in yourself.
- Absences affect student learning as they are missing out on instruction. If your child(ren) is absent, please remember to call the attendance line on the morning of the absence. Upon their return to school, please provide either a doctor's note or a handwritten note from a parent/guardian explaining the reason for the absence.
It is important that we have all the correct contact information, thus please fill in and return the emergency contact cards as soon as you receive them. It is also important to make sure all names of persons that may come to pick up your child is listed on the form as well. Only the name listed will be permitted to pick up your child from the school. Parents will not be permitted to enter into the classrooms during the instructional periods of the day (unless you are a classroom parent and we are in need of your assistance). If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me here are the school or via email. Thank-you and I look forward to a great school year.
Mr. Everett B. Thompson
Principal of Franklin Elementary School
